Paul Spellman

Paul Spellman, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor in the Department of Molecular and Medical Genetics at the Oregon Health and Sciences University (OHSU). He is a member of the Knight Cancer Institute and the Oregon Center for Spatial Systems Biomedicine. Dr. Spellman completed his bachelor's degree from MIT in 1995 and his Ph.D. from Stanford University School of Medicine in 2000 where he trained with Drs. David Botstein and Patrick O. Brown developing techniques for understanding genomes. Dr. Spellman was a post-doctoral fellow with Dr. Gerald M. Rubin at UC Berkeley. Dr. Spellman was a Scientist and later Staff Scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Labs before spending six months as Special Assistant to the Deputy Director of the NCI in 2011. Dr. Spellman joined OHSU in 2011 to pursue his research programs studying the molecular causes of cancer and identifying methods for deploying therapeutic agents more effectively to treat cancer. Dr. Spellman is a member of the Can! c er Genome Atlas and the International Cancer Genomics Consortium.
