Hiroyuki Aburatani, MD, PhD, is currently a Professor of Genome Science at the Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology, the University of Tokyo since 2003. Professor Aburatani studied medicine at Tokyo University and graduated in 1980. After he completed a clinical internship in Tokyo University medical school hospital and took a specialty training for hepatology at Tokyo metropolitan Komagome hospital, he studied plasma lipoprotein gene polymorphisms in relation to cardiovascular diseases at Tokyo University medical school and received his PhD degree in Internal medicine in 1988. He studied cancer genetics at Center for Cancer Research, Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1988 to 1994. He has been a leading scientist in the study of cancer genomics and the genomic variation in human diseases. He is actively involved in establishing a systemic approach to elucidate mechanisms of human diseases as a member of Laboratory of Systems Biology and Medicine at Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology (RCAST), the University of Tokyo. He published 221 scientific papers in international, per-reviewed journals. His research interest is gGenomic medicineh.
