Andy Watson joined Invitrogen in 2008 and is Vice President of Business Operations for Advanced Genomic Systems, responsible for business strategy, market analysis, and product management for single molecule DNA sequencing systems and applications. Prior to Invitrogen, Andy was at Applied Biosystems where he led the CE sequencing business, including CE instruments, reagents, and software. At ABI, Andy also led genetic analysis market and strategy projects, culminating in the acquisition of the SOLiD technology. Before ABI, Andy was a founder of Quantum Dot where he held executive technical and business management roles. Andy has led the development of technologies and software for large scale DNA analysis at Sequana and at the Sanger Center, where he founded and chaired the first genome technologies conference (now AGBT). Andy has 18 years of experience in developing, using, and commercializing genomics technologies. He has been the principal investigator on competitive federal grants worth over $10 million. He is the inventor on more than 25 issued patents and applications and is the author of 7 scientific publications. Andy holds M.Eng, M.A., and B.A. degrees from Kingfs College, Cambridge University.
