We would like to express our sincere condolences for the people and families affected by the earthquake and tsunami of March 11. We pray for those who lost their lives, loved ones, and homes, and continue to support those helping in the recovery process ahead.
The organizing committee is hopeful at this stage that the July meeting can be held as planned.
We will announce any changes as soon as possible. In light of this recent disaster, however, the theme of the 9th International Workshop on Advanced Genomics will be changed to "Revolution of Genome Science." We apologize for any resulting confusion and ask for your understanding.
Please take down any fliers in your area.
We deeply appreciate your support and cooperation.

In 2001, the two papers
on the 1st draft sequence of the human genome were published. 2011
will mark the 10th anniversary of the draft papers. During this period,
we observed the appearance of a new genome-based approach in biomedical
research. It is characterized by the comprehensive data acquisition,
the integration of the various data using informatics and by the
attitude to understand living organisms as genome-based systems.
The information and knowledge obtained from such novel approach is
giving big impact on the areas such as medicine, pharmaceuticals,
energy, environment and agriculture. Genomics will especially contribute
to the personalized healthcare, such as personalized medical treatment
and drug development. The breadth of information produced by next-generation
sequencers is, now, accelerating the speed to that direction. It
is important to understand the latest development in genomics in
order to foresee the future of life sciences and biotechnologies.
The main theme of the 9th International Workshop on Advanced Genomics
planned in July 2011 is "Revolution of Genome Science." It will cover various new frontiers of genomics including "Personal Genome", "Cancer Genomics", "Epigenomicsh, gTranscriptomics" and "Metagenomics", as well as "Bioinformatics". The organizing committee wishes to maintain the spirit of the preceding workshops by stressing the presentations on "New-generation Technology" from
both academia and from industries. The meeting is currently planned
to have plenary lectures, symposia, and poster sessions, and we are
expecting as many as 500 attendants. The workshop is organized by
the 164th Committee of Japan Society for the Promotion of Science
(JSPS), and is supported by Japan Bioindustry Association, and the
Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers' Associations of Japan.
